I recently visited the Carriage Museum just outside Matlock (Derbyshire). We drove past and I managed to persuade my lovely OH to stop so I could do some research.

The museum is also a working stables, and the carriages are set in the stables, meaning you get to see some of the lovely horses too.

They have a large collection, many of which have been used in TV and film period drama’s including BOTH Pride and Prejudice’s and also Sense and Sensibility.

Here are a few piccies:

This is a Travelling Carriage circa 1800.

This is a Stage Coach – about 1865. It was amazing how little room there was inside – in my opinion it would really only take four “normal” sized people inside.

This is the Five Glass Landau and was used in the TV version of P&P.

This was just a small fraction of the carriages on display, there were loads more. Aparently some of the carriages are appearing in “The Duchess” – the film out soon with Keira Knightly that Elizabeth mentioned a few posts ago. Anyway, this museum is definitly worth a visit.

Their website is here.

Many thanks to everyone who attended my book launch party last Saturday, 7th June, at the Birmingham Musuem and Art Gallery’s Edwardian Tea Room.  It was a fantastic afternoon and I was delighted that so many people came along to help me celebrate.  Plenty of tea, cake and wine was consumed and I can confirm that the chocolate fudge cake is to die for!

Here are some pictures of the venue….
